Bandhani

A border of tie-dyed dots, with the middle left clear.

A border of tie-dyed dots and tied flowers, drawn from Gujarati and Rajasthani bandhani, with the middle left as plain paper for the words. Colourful without getting in the way, and very good in rani pink.

Tied, a thousand times over

Bandhani takes its name from bandhan, to tie. The cloth is pinched and tied off at thousands of points before it is dyed, and each tie leaves a dot — the craft of Kutch, Jamnagar and Rajasthan, and of the gharchola a Gujarati bride wears. This style keeps those dots to the border, as a dupatta's densest work is, and leaves the middle clear.

It is colourful without getting in the way of the words — cheerful, crafted and a little playful. It suits a Gujarati or Rajasthani wedding, a Garba night, and anything in rani pink.

Good for

  • Gujarati and Rajasthani weddings
  • Garba and Sangeet evenings
  • Rani, indigo or marigold

The style sets the envelope, the opening card, the dividers and the closing, and the typeface your names are set in. Everything else is the same in every style — each guest greeted by name, only their celebrations, directions to each venue — and it can be changed at any time, even after the invitation has been sent.
